PORTSMOUTH WEDDING St. Mark's Church, North End. was the scene of the wedding of Mr. Geoffrey Thornton, only son of Mr. and Mis. C. W. Thornton, of Harrow, and Miss Beryl York, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Philip York who are well known Portsmouth musical circles. The bride wore a frock of ivory velvet studded with pearls, and an embroidered veil. The four bridesmaids—three of the brides sisters and Miss Phyllis Needham—had long frocks of petunia velvet with bustle backs and hats and muffs to match. They carried aneome sprays and the bride had a sheaf of lilies. The reception was held at the Academy, Elm Grove.

Mum says remarried but no info. Subsequently proved that she didn't but, in fact, wanted to get back with Dad. He declined.
Apparently she loved to wear long dresses and was an accomplished pianist
Probate record describes her as a single woman and leaves estate to Gladys York, widow. Per the 1939 War Record, Gladys was her mother. Her father was Philip H York, Shipwright. Also at the address, 55 Lucknow Street (just off Fratton Bridge) was brother Alan and sister Peggy.3,9,10
