7441 See Father's census entry of 1911 WILTSHIRE, Albert Edgar (I366751065)

7442 See report of the murder of his mother Ann Harvey (nee Jacob).

After the death his father, Thomas, who for some years had run the Plough Inn, Thomas lived nearby (in Green End) together with his wife and 9 children.

There was dispute between Thomas, the eldest son, and the remainder of the family over some land that the father had left to be distributed after his wife's death, between his children, apart from Thomas, who apparently had some special arrangement (unknown). Thomas apparently forcibly took possession of part of the disputed land.

Although Thomas was, by 1861, a married man of about 40 working as a carpenter, the dispute boiled over and he burst into his mother's house and killed her with hammer blows and then made good his escape. he was found the next day hanged from a tree in the orchard that had been at the centre of the family dispute.
